Dear Parents and Guardians,
In alignment with Utah state law passed in July 2025 (HB 104), as part of our ongoing commitment to student safety, The Ranches Academy will be incorporating a brief gun safety lesson into Physical Education classes .
This lesson will focus on age-appropriate firearm safety awareness using the simple message: “If it’s out, shout!” The goal is to help students understand what to do if they ever encounter a firearm at home, a friend’s house, or in the community.
Important to note:
No firearms or replicas will be brought onto campus.
Instruction will be delivered solely through short, age-appropriate videos followed by guided discussion.
Who will participate:Students in grades 1, 3, and 5 will view and discuss the videos during PE class on March 2nd and 3rd.
1st & 3rd Grade Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ho36vonT3Rw
5th Grade Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VElXt5e3uiM
Parent Opt-In Required:In order for your child to participate in the video viewing and discussion, parents must opt in. Students who do not have parent opt-in will be provided with an alternative activity in their classroom during PE time.
Thank you for your support as we work together to keep students of The Ranches Academy safe both at school and at home. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out.
Sincerely,
Bryant Rogers, The Ranches Academy
