Mrs. Nicholson

Second Grade

Hello!  My name is Melissa Nicholson.  Welcome to my class!  I am thrilled to be teaching second grade!   I truly love what I do!

I have spent many years in the education field.  I started my teaching career in 1996 in the Ogden City School District.  I taught Reading, Careers, Social Skills, and ESL (English as Second Language) classes at a middle school for three years until I had my first child.  Then, I had the privilege of being a stay-at-home mom for 12 years.  When my youngest was school age I was fortunate enough to get a part-time job here, at The Ranches Academy, as a teaching assistant.  After working for three years, I loved it so much, I decided to return to school for my Master’s in Elementary.  I have been working here as a teacher since 2013.

I have been blessed with an amazing family.  I am married to one of the nicest, most amazing men on the planet.  I have three children that are full of personality and charm – My youngest just graduated from high school and will be heading to college in the fall.  My middle son is 20 and married to Kate.  He is in the US Army.   My firstborn is 22 and works in the Finance field.   I also have, what I like to call, “my two furry babies”. They are two puppies that follow me around everywhere and think that I am a hero (maybe that’s why I like them so much).

When I am not at school, I enjoy reading, exercising, spending time with my family and friends, and traveling.   I firmly believe that each day is a gift and that we must savor the small moments.  One of my life sayings is that we must “live an ordinary day with extraordinary purpose”.

I look forward to teaching all of your children this year.  Many of the philosophies and values in my classroom have come from watching how my own children have performed in school.   I use their perspective and experiences to continually shape my methodology.  As a mom, it is important that my own children succeed and feel valued in their schooling and careers.  I promise to invest in your children in the same way that I want every teacher and employer to invest in my own children.  I will do my best to value them, challenge them, and respect their individuality.

I look forward to taking this second grade journey with all of you.  Let’s work together to make this the best year ever!
